Haramain KAEC station Saudi Arabia

Delmatic lighting management systems are being installed within the new Haramain High Speed Rail stations at King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), Jeddah and Makkah in Saudi Arabia.

The systems provide flexible, energy-efficient, addressable control and monitoring of lighting throughout front-of-house and back-of-house areas, as well as controlling decorative concourse and façade lighting.

The Haramain network stretches 460 km between Mecca and Medinah via Jeddah and King Abdullah Economic City and will be operated by state-of-the-art, high-speed trains, capable of reaching speeds of up to 300 kilometres per hour.

The stations are conceived as gateways to the cities, filled with places to meet, shop, eat and shelter from the sun.  Drawing on Islamic architecture, the stations are designed to resemble traditional Arabian gateways complemented by variations in colour for each station.  The terminus station at Makkah station is characterised by a rich colour palette and references the gold leaf of the decorated Kab’ah and the city’s significance as a holy site.  Jeddah Station features a shade of purple which has a particular resonance with the city while King Abdullah Economic City’s station is a futuristic blue and silver, representative of its role as a modern new city.

The station designs optimise energy efficiency and include a natural ventilation solution to cool the platforms while roof lights and light tubes maximise daylight at concourse level.

The Delmatic lighting management systems enhance the energy efficiency of the design through a combination of daylight-linked control and occupancy-based control. Lighting is configured into a variety of modes or scenes which are activated automatically at scheduled times, via a solar controller or by photocell sensors.  At night, spotlights give the impression of stars in a night sky, while spherical chandeliers, suspended between the arches, provide focused lighting that works in harmony with the building’s unique design.

The complete systems are managed and monitored across the IP network using animated graphical software.

Quality & reliability of the highest order are crucial to this major public infrastructure system and Delmatic's track record in providing controls for major transportation projects, including the Dubai Metro network, Makkah Metro and London’s Crossrail project, was instrumental in selection for this project.
